Located in Danville, KY, the historic, picturesque 150-acre campus is 30 miles from Lexington, in the famed Bluegrass Region of Central Kentucky.

Seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to join our team as Assistant Director.  The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of healthcare and health professions and a proven track record in career services, with a focus on delivering high-quality career coaching to students and alumni.  Manage and oversee all aspects of the Health & Medicine Career Exploration Community (CEC) including, but not limited to; providing comprehensive career coaching to students and alumni, supervising student leaders, providing academic advising and professional school application support to students and alumni, connecting students with alumni Career Advocates, and developing career- and industry-specific programming for students and alumni.  

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide comprehensive career coaching to undergraduate students in the Health & Medicine CEC.
  • Assist students and alumni in exploring possible careers and career decision-making.
  • Provide direct support for internship, job, and graduate/professional school searches and applications, including resume development, networking, and mock interviewing.
  • In collaboration with faculty advisors, serve as a pre-professional advisor for all pre-health professions, including pre-med, pre-dentistry, pre-nursing, pre-optometry, pre-pharmacy, pre-PT, pre-PA, and pre-veterinary.
  • Build relationships with and serve as a liaison to designated faculty, including working together to facilitate pre-application interviews and composite letters for medical school admission.
  • Advise students and alumni pursuing medical and other health-related professional schools on the necessary academic coursework and experience needed for successful application.
  • Mentor students and alumni through the professional school application process, including application materials, entrance exams, personal statements, and interviews.
  • Track and report data on student application and admissions into professional schools in the healthcare fields.
  • Manage and oversee all aspects of the Health & Medicine CEC including, but not limited to:

o   Recruiting and managing the student leaders; overseeing a student-led communications platform.

o   Developing and facilitating career and professional programming, in particular for the Centre Pre-Health Society, to accelerate students’ career preparedness and facilitate understanding of timelines for professional school applications.

o   Building and managing relationships with alumni Career Advocates to help students explore career fields and prepare for and connect with internships, post-graduate jobs, and graduate/professional school.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of and educate students, faculty and staff on industry trends, qualities/skills employers seek in candidates, and the hiring process.
  • Document coaching sessions in Handshake.
  • Manage a portfolio of students, ensuring and tracking regular student outreach, engagement, and development.
  • Work closely with the Centre Pre-Health Society.
  • Connect students with alumni Career Advocates for mentorship, career advice, and internship/job/graduate school assistance.
  • Lead in-class presentations on career readiness topics as needed.
  • Attend all Health & Medicine CEC events across campus.
  • Represent the CCPD and/or Centre College at events for prospective students, parents, alumni, and employers.
  • Support and attend CCPD events as required.
  • Ability to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Demonstrate an appreciation for and sensitivity to a diverse academic community, fostering an inclusive environment for students, faculty, and staff from a variety of social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial, and ethnic backgrounds. 

Marginal Job Functions:

  • Serve on college-wide committees as assigned.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the department by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, career development, counseling, psychology, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in career services, counseling, student success, higher education, or a related industry.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong empathy and communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments with strong organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with career management platforms (e.g. Handshake), Windows office environment, and social media platforms.
  • Valid driver's license required. 

Physical Requirements

  • Limited pushing, pulling, and lifting.
  • Lifting would not exceed 20 lbs.
  • Mobility on campus is necessary.
