Executive Director of Career Services

The Executive Director of Career Services is responsible for providing innovative leadership and direction for career development and employer relations across the Florida Southern College campus.  The portfolio of the Executive Director includes developing, implementing, and evaluating career services policy formation, programs, events, long-range plans and budgets, key partnerships, high impact practices, and training and supervision of staff.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Create, collaborate, and execute a strategic vision for the role of career services to include the development and implementation of long-term strategic plans, short-term operational plans, and the determination of strategic priorities.
  2. Develop and implement effective assessment and outcome evaluation methods.
  3. Create and deliver high-value, campus-wide career programs for students and alumni including, but not limited to, professional and/or graduate school fairs, campus recruiting programs, learning community presentations, career development workshops, etc.   
  4. Develop and implement marketing strategies to recruit and promote awareness of internship programs, services, programs, and resources to internal and external stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, employers, alumni. Create publications, manage social media, and update website information, etc.
  5. Execute the collection and reporting of internship and first-destination outcomes and other data related to institutional effectiveness to constituents inside and outside the University. Maintain accurate alumni and graduate placement data
  6. Cultivate collaborative relationships with faculty members, deans, upper administration, and others campus departments to promote career development services and support academic outcomes.  
  7. Develop, oversee, and expand on-and-off campus experiential learning opportunities such as internships and community service programs.
  8. Grow and cultivate relationships with existing employer contacts, key campus stakeholders and new external corporate partners, serving as the primary campus liaison with the employer community. Oversee and monitor the development and retention of relationships with employers for the purpose of externships/internships and job placement of graduates.
  9. Leverage technology to enhance networking and connections for employers, students, faculty, and alumni.
  10. Provide leadership to the staff, motivating the team to reach beyond traditional responsibilities, processes and ways of thinking and collaborate to achieve departmental, divisional and college goals.
  11. Engage in professional associations and community activities to promote the objectives of the Career Services department. Serve as a representative of the college and career services at various on and off campus events.
  12. Responsible for fiscal planning and management for career services, including all operations and staffing matters.
  13. Contributes to the success of the Office of Career Services by performing all other duties as needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  1. Master’s degree in related field required (higher education, educational administration, business administration or related discipline); doctorate preferred.
  2. Minimum of six years professional experience in higher education, career development, or employment counseling.
  3. Knowledge of career counseling techniques, job trends and career development skills, effective public relations and networking abilities, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  4. Versatile team player who thrives on student interaction and excels in relationship-building.
  5. Extremely well-organized with excellent follow-through ability and polished presentation skills.
  6. An understanding of the principles of college development and the policies and structure of a four-year liberal arts college is preferred.
  7. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media.
