The Associate Director of Data & Systems Management is a key member of the Office of Career Development & Professional Engagement which is housed in the Office of University Advancement at William & Mary.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Career Development & Professional Engagement, with dotted lines to the Chief Career Officer and the Executive Director of Information Services, the Associate Director of Data & Systems Management is responsible for data, data analysis and data visualization for the department. The Associate Director gathers and interprets data and creates interactive reports that aid the Chief Career Officer and campus partners in developing strategies and tactics that will improve processes and optimize results that inform and align with the strategic plan. 

Key areas of data collection and analysis include career pathways, employer engagement in recruiting and hiring, and student engagement in events and services. Communication and collaboration across campus is also part of the Associate Director’s role. The Associate Director collaborates with department staff and campus partners to refine key metrics and assess progress towards our goals and to develop and refine data collection tools. They will share findings with Career Development & Professional Engagement staff, University leaders, and other key stakeholders. The Associate Director will be the subject matter expert on all technology platforms (e.g. Symplicity, Blackbaud, Banner, Qlik, Cascade, PowerBI) for the team.

This position is based in Williamsburg and is expected to work in person in the office on campus.

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness, including, but not limited to, collaboration, staffing and programming.
  • Experience with spreadsheet, query, statistical modeling, data management and visualization software – e.g., Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, Visual Basic and Visual Studio, Structured Query Language (SQL), Power BI, etc. (typically, 2+ years).
  • Experience using software for data analysis (i.e., Excel, SAS, SPSS, Tableau, Qualtrics) (typically, 2+ years).
  • Experience in data collection, analysis and assessment including producing quality data visualizations in a variety of formats, with the ability to customize presentations for a range of audiences.
  • Experience with survey projects (survey goal definition, design, construction, executing and conducting translation-related validity tests on survey instrument.)
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to handle multiple projects
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with an eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Interpersonal skills to collaborate with a diverse group of colleagues and constituents with varying systems experience and understanding.

Qualified Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field such as business management, engineering, computer science, computer information systems, etc., or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Significant experience reporting and maintaining data integrity using Symplicity or other relational database tools.
  • Experience in career services, data collection and analysis, career services technology & strategic prioritization.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies, trends, methodologies, and resource management principles.
  • Knowledge of AI, gamification and other asynchronous tools.
