Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Internships, Love School of Business (LSB) reports to the Director of Internships for the Love School of Business and supports student efforts in securing internships, monitoring the internships, and assessing the performance of students completing their internships for academic credit. Additionally, the Assistant Director will coordinate aspects of the Porter Center’s involvement in BUS 1110 (Gateway to Business) course. The Assistant Director will interact with students, internship supervisors, employers, the external community, as well as relevant Elon staff and faculty. This position works within the Porter Family Professional Development Center with four other full-time staff members and a team of student ambassadors who serve as the first point of contact within the Porter Center.

Minimum Required Education and Experience:

Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs or a related discipline with experience in career development within higher education. Preference for experience working with business students in a college setting.

Skills/Experience:

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and presentation skills
  • High level of organizational ability, including the ability to organize and coordinate a diverse workload with attention to detail and ability to set and meet deadlines
  • Ability to initiate and develop relationships with students, faculty/staff, and employers, both one-on-one and in group setting
  • Experience in the use of relevant career development technologies
  • Proficiency with MS Office and database management experience
  • An autonomous work style, with the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with a broad range of internal and external constituents.

Job Duties:

  • Communicate and meet 1:1 with LSB students to support and guide their efforts to search for and secure appropriate internships to enhance their overall academic experience and learn skills essential to conduct a successful job search
  • Participate in drop-in hours for the LSB
  • Conduct internship information sessions, as well as class presentations that are relevant to the internship program within the Love School of Business
  • Recruit, train, and supervisor Porter Center Student Ambassadors
  • Coordinate and administer aspects of BUS 3985/ACC 4985, the credit-bearing internship course, in fall, spring, and summer semesters (serving approximately 400-450 students each academic year)
    • Utilize the Elon Job Network (Symplicity) registration process and communicate with the Registrar’s Office to enroll students
    • Vet internship employers when necessary
    • Outreach to students if internship registration does not meet the minimum requirements
  • Coordinate logistics for the Porter Center involvement within BUS 1110, Gateway to Business course (approximately 15 sections and 350 LSB students each semester)
    • Communicate with course instructors and students regarding the Porter Center assignments and respond to assignment inquiries (included under advising/mentoring)
  • Additional duties as assigned
