University Career Services
Reporting to the Director of the Center for Career Development and Internships (CDI), the Career Coach assists students with all phases of the career development process.
 
Career Coaching
  • Provides individual and group career coaching sessions for students.
  • Evaluates student needs and provides appropriate resources and support (e.g., interest and personality inventory interpretation, major and career exploration, resume assistance, job search and interview preparation, and assistance in developing career plans).
  • Facilitates the use of online career management systems, such as Handshake, and online interview preparation software (Big Interview).
  • Helps promote and support the first-year experience and alumni mentoring components of the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP).
Career Readiness Presentations and Workshops
  • Develops, coordinates and facilitates training and skill development workshops on such topics as resume preparation, job/internship-search strategies, interviewing and professionalism.
  • Conducts career presentations in person and via e-learning.
  • Plans and facilitates mock interview events and programs in coordination with employer and alumni engagement initiatives and manages related software tools.
  • Participates in team commitments to staff tables at Admissions events, Graduate School programs, Orientations, Open Houses, etc.
Career Events
  • Helps coordinate on-campus events, including large career fairs and smaller, more-targeted events.
  • Supports career and competency-building events, including career panels and networking after-hours.
  • Recruits, trains and schedules student volunteers.
Marketing & Communications
  • Hires, trains and supervises a student Marketing Coordinator.
  • Develops promotional and outreach campaigns that enhance student participation.
  • Supports CDI’s employer relations strategy by cultivating internship and job leads via interactions with alumni, campus colleagues and faculty referrals.
  • Promotes the use of Handshake for internships and part- and full-time job postings.

Required Qualifications: Master’s degree, preferably in Counseling, Higher Education, Student Affairs, Business, Human Resources, Organizational Development/Communication or related.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Two years of experience in student counseling, career coaching, career services, higher education or placement services.
  • Experience in public relations and/or communications.
  • Training, certification and experience in Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and/or Strong Interest Inventory.
