Career and Professional Development (CPD) at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) is seeking candidates for an assistant director position. The Assistant Director of Internship Engagement reports to the Director of Professional Development and Experiential Initiatives and is responsible for building relationships with employers and organizations to develop and promote internship and work-based learning opportunities for students, designing and coordinating programs and events that connect students to work-based learning experiences, and coaching students on career and professional development topics that lead to career readiness and success.

The Professional Development and Experiential Programs team conceptualizes and executes programs, services, and resources that help Virginia Tech students gain meaningful career experiences, develop beneficial professional networks, and prepare for a successful transition into the workforce. This team oversees programs that facilitate work-based learning for Virginia Tech students and collaborates with campus partners to advance curricular and co-curricular experiential learning initiatives. The Professional Development and Experiential Programs team also consults with employers and organizations offering work-based learning opportunities to students – supporting the development of meaningful work-based learning opportunities. 

Required Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communication, human resources, workforce development, human services, psychology or other related field with experiences in relationship development, recruiting, and/or sales and services. To be successful in this fast-paced work environment, candidates should be energetic, organized, creative, and possess strong interpersonal, communication, and team skills.  Ability to collaborate and foster a spirit of engagement.  Demonstrated ability to design and deliver presentations and workshops.  Ability to learn and utilize technology, software, and platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

A master’s degree with demonstrated experience and knowledge in recruiting practices, work-based learning, and program/event management. Experience in university career services, corporate human resources, or workforce development. Experience with Handshake or CRM (customer relationship management) system and collecting and reporting data. Ability to collaborate with multiple and diverse stakeholders to design and deliver goals and outcomes, demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
